Virtual Visits

All consults are done via secure, HIPAA-compliant phone or video conferencing.

I offer the following consults virtually:

Initial Postpartum Virtual Visit: This is the “virtual equivalent” of my typical initial postpartum home visit. It includes a thorough history and visual exam of nursing parent and baby, observation and assessment of a feeding session, help with latch and positioning, and discussion of all issues or questions you’re dealing with. You will receive a written plan after the visit. If you are local to me, I may drop my (thoroughly sanitized) scale off so that we can do weight check of baby including weighing before and after on special scale to measure how much milk they’re taking in.

Prenatal Virtual Visit: A prenatal (during pregnancy) consult can set you up to start feeding your baby with confidence and an excellent support system! Think of this as a mini-class, individualized for you and your family. I focus on the practical: what’s normal, what’s not, how to get latching off to a good start, how to establish a good milk supply, and when to reach out for help. We’ll discuss any concerns or issues specific to your individual situation, and if you don’t live close by I’ll get you connected with resources in your area. You are encouraged to have your support person (or people) join the call. I’ll send you a packet of information so you have it to refer back to in the future, and completing this visit also gives you access to ongoing e-mail support from me.

Inducing Lactation Virtual Visit: I’ve been privileged to work with many families interested in inducing lactation (making milk without being pregnant/giving birth), including those welcoming babies through surrogacy, adoption, or as a non-gestational partner. We will discuss options for induction (including hormonal and non-hormonal methods), how to get milk production started, how to start directly nursing your baby (if that is one of your goals), and how much milk your baby will need. If two people will be nursing the baby, we will also discuss how to balance that and keep both people’s milk production going. You will get a packet of information to refer to in the future, and completing this visit also gives you access to ongoing e-mail support from me.

Back-to-work and Pumping Virtual Visit: This is a personalized version of my popular “Get Pumped!” class. We will go over how to fit pumping into your schedule during leave and once you’re back to work, check your pump flange fit, calculate how much milk your individual baby needs while you’re apart, how to introduce a bottle, and much more. You are encouraged to have your support person (or people) join the call, and I’ll send you a packet of information so you have it to refer back to in the future, and completing this visit also gives you access to ongoing e-mail support from me.

Follow-Up Virtual Visit: For those who have seen me previously (in person or virtually) – have a question or issue that requires a sustained conversation and/or video capabilities? Let’s block out time for a call. (Note for patients local to me: depending on what we are working on together, follow ups may need to be in person – we will discuss this at your visit if so.)

Other Virtual Visits: Are you interested in a visit that’s not on this list? Get in touch with me and I may be able to customize a visit for you! Keep in mind that not all lactation issues can be safely and thoroughly addressed remotely – my ability to examine, observe, and assist is limited. If I feel your needs are better met by an in-person visit, I will help you investigate your local options for care.
